Motorcycle Air Horn »

Air Horn

An air horn is a device made to create a very loud noise. It is usually composed of a pressurized air source attached to a horn that allows it to be operated by an on and off device. Air horns are often installed on large trucks and trains as a warning device and also on ships as a signaling device. It can also be in a compact form sued for sporting events or safety purposes.

Fire trucks, ambulances and other large vehicles have air horns installed in their vehicles as a warning device to warn vehicle to clear the right of way. Also, there are electronic types of air horns installed which is also the same the regular air horn. A large vehicle such as a train has its own set of train horns and it primary purpose is to alert people and animals that a train is nearby approaching, especially when approaching a railroad crossing.

The portable or personal air horn is a spray-type of horn where they air is trapped inside an aerosol spray and a cone-shaped valve is attached to it. They are often used in sporting events and outdoor events such as basketball, football, and hockey.

How does and air horn work? An air horn uses an air compressor that generates extreme amounts of air at a very high pressure. The air is routed through tubes to the horns, making it as a source of sound. The compressors are activated by a switch that is wired to a power source or often times operated manually. With a simple toggle of the on and off button, the sound will produce by generating the air needed in order to produce the sound. The air flows through the horns when the compressor is activated, allowing the air to quickly pass through and escape from it. A vibration is created and carried through the air and the human ear receives it as a form of sound. Because the vibrations are so strong, the sound that is produced by the air horns is louder than a regular vehicle horn.

Proper usage of air horns creates discipline and promotes peace and alertness within each other. Some people use air horns as a prank or a gag to lure people to join the funny ranks. The air horn is very loud when it is operated and it can cause ear defects such as deafness.
